planet vegmel's 2nd birthday: that recipe seems very familiar...

September 14th sees the two-year anniversary of Planet VegMel, the useful and delightful way to read the foodie blogs of veg*ns from around Melbourne. In that time we've grown to 44 contributing blogs, covering all sorts of veg interests around Melbourne. We've also got a facebook page which, no pressure, you should feel free to like, and which is sometimes updated with links and new things that might not make it onto a blog post, such as the fact that there is now a mobile VegMel app!

To celebrate the Planet's two year anniversary, I am proud to announce the 'That Recipe Seems Very Familiar...' blog event. This blog event was suggested by Michael of Where's the Beef, and entails using the recipe (or recipes, don't let me restrict you) of a Melbourne vego blogger, and then blogging about it. Leave a comment on this post with a link to your remix, and on the 14th I will make a post with a round up of the original recipes and the remixes/attempts.

As part of the birthday celebrations, there will also be a Planet VegMel 2nd anniversary birthday picnic potluck at Edinburgh Gardens. Check out the facebook event for more details! Non-bloggers are very welcome to come along.

Perth Events

That's right, awesome things in Perth when I'm not around to enjoy them. WHATEVER, PERTH. (call me)

There's a new shop opening in Freo, Cruelty Free WA Shop. Cruelty Free WA provides cruelty free, environmentally friendly products made with no animal products and no animal testing. Their grand opening is tomorrow, Saturday 24th October, and if you go along there are free taste testings and 10% off all items in store. PROBABLY AWESOME? They're at 28A Queen St in Freo (across from the Juicy Beetroot).

World Vegan Day is Sunday 1st November. I'm super excited about being in Melboure and getting to go to Abbotsford for the event, but there is also a World Vegan Day Picnic being held in Perth! It's 12-4, at Sir James Mitchell Park (which is in South Perth).

Also on the 1st of November, is a Vegan Food Basics Workshop, being held at Earthwise in Subiaco. You can click the link for more details.

fundraiser bbq for the victorian bushfire relief effort

I have many Sydney related things to talk about, but first (and still food related):

There is going to be a bbq event this Saturday evening (the 14th) to raise funds for the relief effort for the bushfires in Victoria.

It will be at the picnic area at the South end of the South Perth Esplanade (access from Ray or Mends street and turn right), 1600 onwards. Non-alcoholic beverages will be provided. Please bring your own food (I suspect everyone else will be loading up with meat :o( ), and a donation. Contacts are Jaunita Landéesse (0439354992 / transcendancing@gmail.com) or Grant Watson (0430223604 / fanboy@gmail.com)

All funds will be donated to the Red Cross 2009 Victorian bushfire Fund.

You can find more details on the fires and the things that you can do, if you are so inclined, here and here.
